Eating kosher in the 12th, around Daumesnil

A guide to kosher dining in the 12th: avenue Daumesnil, rue de Charenton, rue Louis Braille. Certified or declared by the restaurant: what the evidence says for each address.

You have just moved to the Daumesnil area. The boxes are still in the hallway, the kitchen will not have gas until Thursday, and tonight’s question is simple: where can you eat kosher without crossing Paris? The 12th has fewer options than the 17th, but two streets offer enough to get you through the week. The updated list is on kosher restaurants in the 12th with supporting evidence. Here is a neighbourhood guide, and a real example of the difference between certification and a restaurant’s own declaration.

Avenue Daumesnil: grilled meat and dairy Italian food

Two kosher restaurants on avenue Daumesnil, around twenty street numbers apart, serving different types of food. Handy when nobody agrees on dinner.

Tikoun Olam, at number 136, serves wood-fired grilled meat. The menu recorded from its website includes beef hummus bassar, homemade tchoutchouka, parguit skewers, the Tikoun burger and sliced beef crying-tiger style. The Beth Din de Paris directory lists it as a “bassari restaurant”.

La Stella, at number 158, is the neighbourhood’s dairy address, listed as a “halavi restaurant” by the same directory. Italian throughout: pasta al pistachio, three-cheese ravioli, pizza al tartufo, fish and lunch set menus. It is the only certified halavi restaurant documented in the 12th. If you want a cheese pizza tonight, that settles it.

Rue de Charenton and rue Louis Braille: Asia and the Mediterranean

Do not confuse the two: here we mean rue de Charenton, in the 12th. The town of Charenton-le-Pont, just beyond the ring road, has its own list.

Wang’s, at 310 rue de Charenton, has a very extensive recorded Chinese and Japanese menu: stir-fried noodles, bo-bun, tartares, maki, sushi, sashimi and platters. On rue Louis Braille, near Michel Bizot, KOÏS offers a shorter menu in the same culinary family: bobun, lacquered duck, chirashi and California rolls. Both are listed as “bassari restaurants” in the Beth Din de Paris directory, and both feature in our kosher sushi guide.

Guefen, at 212 bis rue de Charenton, offers something different: a multi-course menu, Mediterranean cooking and plenty of fish (crudo, sea bass rillettes, charcoal-grilled sea bass). It is also the case study for the next section.

Certified or declared: the Guefen example

For Tikoun Olam, La Stella, Wang’s and KOÏS, Keila found each establishment in the official live Beth Din de Paris directory on 2 October 2026, at its exact address, with coverage for the whole establishment. The organisation is putting its name behind it. The source publishes neither a copy of the teouda nor a validity date, and the listing says so.

For Guefen, the evidence is different: the restaurant itself states that the whole establishment is kosher. Keila recorded this declaration on 7 September 2026. A declaration is a useful, dated public commitment. It is not a certification, and the listing never presents it as one. A kosher directory lists the restaurant as dairy, with supervision attributed to a rabbi from Amsterdam: Keila has not documented that supervision through an official source, so the listing does not display it as a certification. If the level of supervision matters to you, ask to see the certificate on site.

To be confirmed

Two other addresses in the 12th were found in a kosher directory, without evidence documented to date. They have no listing and are not counted among the five. Nonna Rita, on rue Marsoulan, is listed as dairy, serving pizza and Italian food, with the Rabbinat Loubavitch de France named as supervisor. The Buvette de la Fondation de Rothschild, on rue de Picpus, is listed as meat. In both cases: confirm on site or by phone.

Questions we are asked

Where can I eat dairy in the 12th?

With documented certification, there is one address: La Stella, on avenue Daumesnil. A directory lists Guefen as dairy; the evidence held is the restaurant’s declaration. Nonna Rita is also listed as dairy, pending confirmation. The terms are explained in bassari, halavi and pareve.

How can I tell whether a restaurant is kosher?

Look for the source. Every Keila listing explains whether its evidence comes from an organisation (documented certification), the restaurant (a declaration) or a directory (to be confirmed). On site, the displayed certificate names the organisation and the validity period. The rest of the reasoning is on our method page.

Why are there so few addresses in the 12th?

Because we only count what we can substantiate. The Keila catalogue is still being built: an absent address is not a “non-kosher” address, but one we have not yet documented. An address found only in a directory remains separate, like Nonna Rita or the Buvette. Know another one with its certificate? Suggest it through the app or write to thomas@keila.app.

What if I go as far as Saint-Mandé?

Good idea: Saint-Mandé begins just beyond porte de Saint-Mandé and has five certified addresses, all meat. The 11th, to the north, adds boulevard Voltaire. For the overview, see where to eat kosher in Paris, by arrondissement.

You can filter all of this by type and neighbourhood in the Keila app, coming soon to the App Store. Do you run a kosher restaurant in the 12th whose listing shows only a declaration, or nothing at all? Send us your source and we will display it with its date: restaurant owners’ space.
