A Saturday night in November. Havdalah is over, everyone’s phone comes back on at once, and the group has one idea: go out to eat. The problem is that the whole kosher city had the same idea at the same minute. Shabbat ends, everyone gets hungry together, and whoever calls the restaurant first wins. This article tells you whom to call. Full lists, with the evidence for each address, are on kosher restaurants by location.
How we counted. We started with Keila’s kosher listings with documented evidence: here, all 15 addresses are named at their precise address in the Beth Din de Paris directory. Among the 106 with recorded hours, we kept those showing Saturday evening service. We excluded five whose recorded hours showed Friday evening or Saturday daytime service: for a kosher address, this suggests that the source does not account for Shabbat, and we prefer to say nothing rather than repeat an error.
Why the time changes every week
Shabbat ends on Saturday at nightfall, when three stars can be seen. This is called motzaei Shabbat, the end of Shabbat. The restaurant reopens afterwards: the stoves must be restarted, the team brought back and the dining room prepared. In Paris, nightfall moves by five hours over the year: around 18:00 in mid-December and around 23:00 in late June. In early October, it is around 20:00. And on Sunday 25 October 2026, when the clocks go back, the end of Shabbat suddenly falls an hour earlier by the clock.
The recorded hours are fixed hours for an ordinary week: a Saturday slot that does not move. Shabbat does. That is why we never copy that slot: it might be right in winter and wrong in summer, or the reverse. What the record reliably tells us is that the restaurant opens on Saturday night. The restaurant knows exactly when. The Consistoire publishes weekly Shabbat times in its calendar, and the rest of the weekend is explained in Shabbat and restaurants in Paris.
A practical consequence: Saturday-night dining is mainly a winter question, when Shabbat ends early. In June, going out for dinner after 23:00 is a different matter, for you and for the restaurant.

Dairy or meat tonight?
On Saturday evenings, almost half the list is halavi: 7 addresses out of 15, compared with 17 out of 91 on Sundays. O Gusto, l’Inté Caffé, Tayim, La Terrasse, Chez Giulia, Ventisei and Zapi Sushi. A dairy dinner on Saturday night is therefore more than a family habit: it also shows up in the records. The other 8 are bassari: Mangal, Missada, Nina Sushi Longchamp, Sma Ma Mash 16e and Saint-Mandé, Dav and Jo, Tikoun Olam and Nooba.
If Shabbat lunch was cholent, the choice often makes itself. The meanings of bassari, halavi and pareve, and why a cream dessert is not served in a meat restaurant, are explained in this article. All halavi addresses, regardless of day, are on kosher halavi restaurants.
The Saturday-night rule
- Check this week’s Shabbat ending time, not last week’s.
- Call after Shabbat ends, or book during the week if the restaurant takes reservations: for a group, it changes everything.
- Be wary of Saturday slots displayed online: those are fixed hours, and Shabbat is not.
- Keep a backup address. On winter Saturday nights, your first choice is often full.
If nobody answers, there is always Sunday, when almost everything is open: see kosher restaurants open on Sundays in Paris.
Questions we are asked
What about holidays?
When a festival follows Shabbat or falls on Saturday, Saturday night does not mark the end: the festival continues, and kosher restaurants generally remain closed. The holidays are detailed in our Shabbat article. In every case: call.
What about summer?
When Shabbat ends around 23:00, reopening for an hour of service does not always make sense, and some restaurants do not do it. The list above comes from an early-October record: in summer, it will probably be shorter. We are not claiming this for any particular address, simply advising you to check.
My restaurant reopens on Saturday nights and is not listed
Either we do not yet have documented kosher evidence for it, its recorded hours do not show Saturday evening service, or it was among the five excluded. Write to thomas@keila.app. Do you run the restaurant? Your hours and certificate can appear on your listing with their source: restaurant owners’ space.
